The building and construction industry has traditionally been seen as a blokey environment. But now, more and more women are choosing a career in this industry. Leading the charge to encourage more women to enter this industry is our long time partners here at Home in WA – the Master Builders Association of WA, and they’ve got some exciting news.
For the first time ever, in the 14-year history of the Master Builders WA Apprentice of the Year Awards, the overall Apprentice of the Year was won by a woman, Aly Harper.
Aly Harper represents a new era of women in the building and construction and Master Builders are proud to support the great work that she, and other trail blazers are doing in the industry.
In the last seven years female apprentices in the industry have grown from 2.2 percent to 4.4 percent, and while that’s great there is still a long way to go.
While Aly is leading the new crop of females in construction, Paula West has been flying the flag for over thirty years. She is the General Manager of Inspired Homes and the first female ever to be elected to join the Master Builders WA board.
Master Builders WA recognises and supports women in their industry through their fantastic initiatives like the Apprentice of the Year Awards, and their WinBAC (Women in Building and Construction) program.
With amazing ambassadors like Paula and Aly the future is looking pretty bright for women in this industry.
