The great Australian dream of owning our own home has been getting further and further away over the past few years so with some great new announcements from the Federal and State Governments that dream is closer and closer – Earlier in the year the Federal Government announced a $25,000 stimulus package for New Home Builders and Home renovators. Then the Western Australian Government added to that with their own round of builder bonus funding to help inject some life into our building and construction industry and help people into their first home!
Hans spoke to the Premier – Mark McGowan and ask the question, “Who is going to benefit most from these packages?” Mr. McGowan replied; “Well the big beneficiaries will be anyone who wants to build a new house in Western Australia will get $20,000 and then all the people that work in housing across the state, whether you’re an apprentice, a trades person or someone who sells houses in a display village, or a conveyancer, wherever it may be they will benefit from this grant. $20,000 is a lot of money towards a new house, combined with the Commonwealth grant program of $25,000, if you are a First Home Buyer $10,000 additional, and then if you are certain home buyer under certain levels of value you can get exempt from Stamp Duty so this is a huge boost to home building in Western Australia designed to bring forward activity and to ensure that period ‘when there were not many contracts signed up’, we fill that period in the future and we get that activity under way as soon as possible!”
Hans then spoke to the Master Builders WA Executive Director, John Gelavis and asked, “John, what’s this mean for the industry?”
John responded, “Well it’s going to fantastic for the industry, a shot in the arm and really Turbo Charge the sector. It’s been doing it very tough over the last few years, we’ve seen housing commencements decline quiet rapidly, COVID 19 here, then we’ve seen it diminishing in the pipeline.
This comes really at the right time for the building and construction industry, at the right time for the housing industry and it going to save lots of jobs, it’s going to create lots of jobs, for many Mum & Dad Builders, and some large builders and subcontractors, suppliers it is going to benefit everyone right across the whole sector.”
