For young people interested in joining the constantly changing and challenging construction industry, there are a variety of paths that can lead to having a well-paid and rewarding career whether it be via an apprenticeship or university.
And, each year Master Builders celebrates WA’s next Rising Stars, with two awards aptly named after Ric New the man who started Midland Brick.
Well, today on Home in WA, we are proud to share with you the winners of those two awards.
Cinzia spoke to Rising Star winner Alex and asked how he found himself in the construction industry.
The $200 billion dollar building and construction industry is Australia’s third largest industry that employs over a million people.
There are a huge range of opportunities available in everything from carpentry, bricklaying and plumbing, through to estimating, building surveying, project management and engineering.
Plus, the skills you acquire can be used anywhere in the world, so your options are endless.
Both Rising Stars are judged on personal skills, relationships with fellow workers and contractors, leadership capability, level of competency, contribution to the industry and much more.
This year, Master Builders held the 2016 Apprentice of the Year Awards incorporating the Ric New & Rising Star on November 4. The awards attracted nearly 300 guests to a spectacular evening with high class entertainment and special guests.
The Ric New award winner Wilson told Cinzia how he chose the Building Industry over working in Mining.
The Awards play a vital role in showcasing and celebrating exceptional young up and upcoming building representatives across WA. And it’s so great to see those under 35 stepping up to learn, innovate and help to create the future of our state.
