Here in WA we like to think we have plenty to choose from when we’re building a two story home. But do we? Sure, there’s a number of designs, but lets have a quick look at our options.
The most common is Double Brick, we all know this, its been around forever. Then there’s Framed Construction. This is a structural framed house clad externally for aesthetics and weather proofing.
Ian Holloway from the Thompson Building Group shows us the advantages of two of his homes, one at completion and the other mid construction. First of all, they’re quick to build. Their first 2 story is on track for 16 weeks including fit out. This in turn makes it cheap. Less rent and holding costs, fewer tradies as there’s no wet trade needed and life is easier for the workers on site with out the usual mounds of sand and rubble that come with a brick build.
And of course, there’s a few reasons why it’s a leader in the sustainability race too. There’s less fill if any, very little need for retaining, less construction waste and by no means the least, a better star rating… this place works like an Esky, not a heat sink.
